Any tips or drills to improve my golf putting?
The following is a part of my guide

“There is no one right way to putt. This is why instructors have the most difficult teaching amateurs how to putt. What works for your friend may not work for you.

While there are many different ways to grip the putter, one thing that all putts have in common is a fluid tempo. It is necessary to maintain swing speed when coming through. This helps the consistently of your speed judgment.

When putting, think of your arms as the pendulum on a grandfather clock. Like a pendulum, you should follow through as far as you take your club back. If you take your club back three inches, you should follow through three inches.

This also helps in consistently judging your speed. Don’t attempt to adjust swing speeds when you come through, it will hurt your putts consistency.”

The most important is practice practice and practice
Golf putting, stroke problems
My one tip usually helps every one with putting issues…however you practice… with another ball, cup or practice green…take your normal stance and address…look at nothing but the target and putt…it will feel awkward at first…but keep doing it and watch how closer your ball ends up near your target, watch how you get that tour player speed role…..this is a total feel putt…
Horrific Putting!! HELP!!!?
Besides the obvious answer that you may get, which is practise practise practise, I would say this problem is somewhat confidence based as you say. Here are a few things to try:

Before every putt, imagine a 3 foot circle around the hole and just try to get it within that circle. Visualization is key in golf, especially putting. For shorter putts, imagine the ball rolling into the hole on the line you have chosen. As some people will tell you, “pick a line and trust your stroke”. And remember to get your putts to the hole, because a putt left short will never drop.

Try to eliminate wrist or arm movement in your putting stroke. This is a killer for a lot of people. A good putting stroke keeps the arms, wrists, and hands still throughout the stroke, only using the shoulders to move the putter. If you’re having trouble keeping your stroke steady try a training aid. There are hundreds of these, I’m sure your local pro shop would have something like this.

As far as a putting grip goes, everyone seems to have their own idea of what is right. It really comes down to what feels comfortable for you. A big thing is grip pressure. You should always keep your grip pressure on your putter the same, otherwise your weight will be inconsistent. It is recommended that your putter grip pressure is about a 5 out of 10, 10 being a very tight grip and 1 being as light as you can grip without your putter falling out of your hand. I can’t confirm where I heard this but I think it was in a golf magazine I read a while back

And last but not least, practise. If you’re hitting the ball out there 200 yards nice and straight, just concentrate more of your time putting on the practise green than at the driving range. Just set balls down, read the green and try to make putts. And don’t get worked up about missing putts, that won’t help your game at all. Just move on and try to make the next one.

Putting is usually the toughest part of golf to learn.
Even though I shot in the 100s last year, I want to make varsity this year?
I was in your situation, I shot constant 100′s, and the best way to improve is SHORT GAME, the easiest way to drop shots. 40 times per round is not varsity worthy, try working on putting and drop that to 31ish putts per round (you will see your scores drop). Chipping will help as well. I am currently on varsity, with a 4.7 handicap, due to my improved short game.

Golf rules?
What are the rules for match play?
Match play selects a winner for each hole played. If both players have the same score on a hole it is a tie and no one wins. You can have 12 strokes on one hole and your opponent only 3 to beat you, but you just lose 1 hole. Usually you play an 18 hole match. First to win 10 holes will win the match. Many times a match will be won before hole 18. An example might be that you are 4 holes ahead going to hole 16 and there are only 3 holes left to be played, so the match is over 4 holes up with 3 to play.

The majority of golf courses are between par 70-72. Virtually all holes will be par 3,4, or 5. It is common to have 4 par 3′s, 4 par 5′s, and 10 par 4′s. This would be par 72. Remember all courses are different and you are playing against others at the same course. Everyone plays on the same course. Lot’s of sports will have different tracks, fields, etc. But as long as you play the same course, track, or field all have the same chance.

First and foremost, follow the etiquette of the game. Respect other players and the course. Do not distract other players. Repair any damage to the course.

As to the game itself:

Be ready to play at your allocated time.

Have the correct golf equipment, clubs, shoes etc.

Put a distinctive mark on your ball (useful in distinguishing it from other players balls)

Tee off within the teeing area.

Do not play out of turn.

Play the ball as it lies (do not do anything to improve the lie of the ball, do not touch or pick the ball up until it is on the green. Remember to mark the ball when picking it up on the green).

Make sure you do not cause your ball to move, except in the act of hitting it.

When putting, make sure your ball does not strike the flagstick. Have it attended or removed.

Make sure you record the score for each hole clearly on the scorecard. Sign the card when your round has finished and have it signed by your marker.

Be ready to play when it is your turn. Do not be the source of slow play – everybody hates slow players.

If you ball is in a water hazard or a bunker, do not ground your club in that hazard or bunker.

If you think your ball might be lost, play another, provisional, ball. This will save time if you cannot find your first ball.

Get a rule book! They are small, easy to carry and very informative.

To find out more about the etiquette and rules of the game check out this website.

http://www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Rules-of-Golf/Rules-and-Decisions/#scrollTop:rules_browse_left=

There is so much more to the rules of golf concerning all manner of things such as when you get relief and from what, what you do when your ball is unplayable, what happens when something hits your ball when it is at rest and many many other things. The website above is a really good starting point. You cannot learn everthing you need to know in one day.
Are there any real significant rules differences between the R&A and USGA’s rules?
No, there are no differences. The main difference still remaining was addressed at the last rule change, with the R&A coming in to line with the USGA view regarding hole-in-one prizes.
Golf rules question.

After you mark you’re ball, you start setting up to hit it, but while you’re backed off it moves by the heavy wind. This happens with every ball of the 4 people in your group while in a tournament. There is nothing they could have done with the ridiculous wind. Were they supposed to take penalties? What is the ruling?

There was a rules change this year about this. There are different cases to consider:

- You did not address your ball. In this case, you play the ball from its new position, no matter where that new position is. If the wind blows the ball into the hole, you saved a stroke. If the wind blows the ball into a hazard, not so good for you, but you have to proceed under the hazard rules.
Don’t even think about trying to stop the ball while the wind is blowing it. That would be two strokes.

You addressed the ball. This is where the rule has changed.

- If it is “known or virtually certain” that the player did not cause the ball to move, you play the ball from its new position. You do NOT replace it. There is no penalty.

- If it is not “known or virtually certain”, then you must assume that the player caused the ball to move. In this case, you must replace the ball and take a one-sroke penalty.

Obviously, “known or virtually certain” depends on the conditions. If the wind is howling at 25 mph, it’s easier to know or be virtually certain that the player did not move the ball.

If the wind is a gentle breeze, it’s harder to believe that the wind would move the ball, so you’d have to assume the player moved it.

Since you described it as a “ridiculous” wind, and everybody’s ball moved, it sounds like there is no question that the wind moved the ball. You would just play the ball from the new position. There would be no penalty, and you don’t replace it.

If you’re on the green you can mark and lift your ball before you back off. As long as your ball isn’t moving, you can always mark it on the green.

But it you put your marker behind the ball and the ball moves while the marker is in place, you still have to play from the new spot.

How can I get a good repeatable golf swing ?

Stop taking full swings take little 130 yard 5 irons shots on the range this builds memory 5x faster that a full swing with errors. After doing this 100 times take a full swing you will see instant res
The above is right but before that grip and stance need to be correct as well.
Do NOT worry about distance. Practice a smooth swing with good tempo and just focus on solid contact. Distance is a luxury in golf, but it’s not necessary. Practice your short game and just making solid swings and the distance will come
Videotaping my golf swing, but who/what to compare it to?
Don’t compare it to anyone. If you’re looking at it from down-the-line, draw a line that runs from the club head up the shaft to a point past your neckline. If the club rotates back and through without too much fluctuation over and under the line, you’re club is on plane. You can also check this without a line by noticing where the shaft intersects your upper arm on the downswing. If it’s coming down between your shoulder and elbow of the trailing arm (right arm for RH’s), you’re OK.

Another thing you can check with DTL is if your club is laid off or across-the-line at the top. Laid off is if it’s pointing to the right (again, for RH’s) and across-the-line is if it points too much to the left. Being laid off can exacerbate a hook; ATL can create a slice, especially since it’s usually coupled with an outside-in swing.

You can also check to see if you’re sliding too much with a face-on view. Draw two lines, one running up just outside the left hip and another just like it on the right. If your body crosses these lines going back and coming through, you’re hips are sliding instead of rotating, which can be a power leak.

I’m never big on suggesting someone swings like anyone else. Everyone has different builds, abilities, grip positions, weaknesses, practice time…. you get the idea. Someone like Tiger Woods can change his swing completely 3-4 times in his career because he can devote thousands and thousands of hours to just doing that. Normal people just don’t have that kind of time, so it’s best to work on making what you currently have better rather than trying to emulate someone else.
Wrist hinge in my golf swing?
The wrist hinge is how you get power in the swing. The proper hinge is to hinge your hands UP not BACK in the swing. A good way to see this is to stand at address and just pick the club up using your wrists so it’s at 90* angle with your forearms. Then turn your upper body into your normal backswing. This is the proper position at the top with the wrists. A lot of amateurs hinge backward or “cast” the club, trying to get hinge and take the club back inside to inside. it MUST be a hinge upward.
Strong forearms help. When you stand at address, hinge your wrists straight up, so that the shaft is at a 90* angle to your forearms. That’s your natural wrist hinge. From there, just take the club to the top slowly, while focusing on making as full of a turn you can. Once you complete the backswing, set the down swing in motion, again, doing it slowly so you can focus on maintaining that hinge. Your body will let you know when it’s time to release the club.
Wrist hinge provides the pendulum effect in golf swings. The wrist at the end of the back swing should look like a waiter holding a tray and when you swing into the ball the wrists reverse left (like swatting) and you finish over the left shoulder. A good practice is to swing (without the ball) in a free in to out pattern without stopping. This will train your response to the club moving into the correct movement.

Inconsistent golf swing/tempo please help!?
The best drill I’ve found that works for me is to hit one full shot with what ever you consistently and accurately hit 100 yards, then switch to your driver and put the same swing on it. The idea is to alternate every other shot because give anyone a driver and their mindset is that they have to swing hard when in fact it is just the opposite. Your swing speed should be the same. The driver is longer, bigger, and less lofted to give you more distance with out having to swing harder. Spend a week doing that and I gaurantee you will notice an improvement in the consistency of your tempo between clubs.

What’s a good starter set of women’s golf clubs?
I haven’t golfed in years but would like to start golfing again. I’m not ready to invest in a high quality high priced set ofgolf clubs. Could someone recommend a good set of clubs.
I went to D*ck’s website and this one seems nice and won’t break the bank…Wilson is a good brand of golf club.
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/produc…
What brand or model of golf clubs benefits a junior player?
I played a whole season last year with some generic clubs called AVT (advanced velocity technology). I am not that good but I can hit consistently with distance. I would like to find a set of irons that will benefit an amateur but will still be a good club all through high school. I would like to keep under 500 dollars!!
There is no one brand/model out there. If there was, everyone- even the pro’s- would be gaming it. They’re all made in the same 10-12 foundries in China and Taiwan (forged models in Japan or China). What really matters is how a club fits you:

1. is it the right length?
2. is there enough loft?
3. is the grip the right size?
4. what face angle do you need and/or do you need an offset hosel?
5. what’s YOUR swingweight (how heavy the head feels)?
6. what shaft flex do you need?
7. how much should each club weigh overall?

Get those down first. There’s a long list of brands: US Kids, Founders Club, Forgan, Acer, Dynacraft, Tricept, KE4, CT256, Snake Eyes, Lynx, MacGregor, Nike, Callaway, Ping, Diamond Tour Golf, Bang, Geek, SMT, Inazone, Distance Master… it can go on quite a ways, and all at varying price points.

If you’re looking at keeping it under $500, look towards component brands (like DTG, Acer, Tricept, etc.) or for junior “name brand” models Founders Club and US Kids will fit that budget, unless you can find a used set.

Whatever you do, get fitted. The fitter should take your growth and practice habits into account, and build/retrofit your new clubs to grow with you.
What size golf clubs should I use?
I am a 14 year old boy and am 5 foot 4. I currently use women clubs. Should I be switching to men’s clubs?
You should use men’s club but with slightly shorter shaft. For example, 43 inche driver instead of 45 inches.

To know what length, of course, you should take a Custom Fitting session

That’s been the passion of the Titleist brand from its earliest days. Now, Titleist golf clubs are known by professionals and amateurs alike as an innovative and quality choice for golf clubs.

Titleist was started by a golfer who was unsatisfied by the products offered and who turned that dissatisfaction into a great company. Phillip Young was trying to figure out why the golf balls he was playing with in the 1920s just weren’t giving good results. He used an X-ray machine on a golf ball and discovered the problem: the cores were not perfectly balanced, causing the defective golf balls to err from their true course. So began the company of Titleist and its pursuit of golf perfection.

As you can see, Titleist has from the beginning aimed to be the leader in golf technology. Back when Young first used the X-ray machine on a golf ball, that kind of analysis of golf supplies was unheard of. Today, Titleist is marked by the same dogged determination to find what will make your game and the games of golfers on Tour even better. You can see this determination in their new hybrid golf clubs and forged irons which have been designed after long research with the effect of sound and vibrations on the resonant frequency of the metal in the irons.

Titleist golf clubs are known for being a quality brand. If you choose Titleist, you won’t have to replace your clubs as often as with other brands. So in choosing a golf club brand to last you for many years and games ahead, you would be wise to investigate the offerings of the Titleist brand.

You can’t go wrong with the Titlesit brand of golf clubs. They are truly cutting edge and long-lasting.

If you play golf as a hobby or for a bit of recreational exercise, you may think that golf shoes are unimportant. You say to yourself, Surely golf shoes are just for the pros. Well, you would be wrong. For the good of your game and your enjoyment, golf shoes are essential. Using golf shoes over that pair of tennis shoes you were planning on wearing will improve your power swing and increase your traction in times when you need it most. They could even be the difference between your getting on the course or going home without playing that round of golf you wanted to.

Do you think that your swing has so much potential, but not enough of that potential is realized? I bet that’s because you’re wearing shoes that aren’t meant for really swinging a golf club. If you’re going to get the most out of your swing, your feet really have to be planted, and that means having golf shoes with traction.

In fact, traction is indispensable when you’re on a golf course, both to play and to move around. Unless you live in a desert and the golf course never waters, you’re going to encounter wet fairways, greens, and rough. You’re going to need your shoes to help and not hurt you in these situations. Golf shoes will provide you enough traction to walk around the course and hit the ball with power and precision.

But who really cares about how well you will do if you can’t even get on the golf course? Many courses actually require that you wear proper golf shoes, so think about that the next time you think those old tennis shoes will do. You need to get yourself some real golf shoes if you’re going to have real fun and be any good at golf.

TaylorMade golf clubs are some of the best, most innovative clubs available. Most people know them for their drivers, but they do have a full line of clubs. The R11 and Burner series drivers are both very high quality, and the Rescue series of hybrids are an innovative replacement for irons.

TaylorMade drivers are consistently rated as some of the best drivers available for purchase, and they are great for the whole range of golfers, whether you’re a professional or have a handicap of 40. The R11 model is the most versatile of their drivers. It is fully customizable; you can tune loft, face angle, and flight path to your exact needs. This means that, even if you’re completely new to golfing, you can tune your club to your swing and lengthen the distance of your shots with your driver.

The TaylorMade Burner driver series provides power and performance without burning a hole in your wallet. Even better, these are great for the less experienced golfer. They are lightweight, increasing the speed of your swing, and they have a huge forgiving face. One of these drivers could really improve your game when you’re just starting out – and since they’re inexpensive, you won’t break the bank just to get your first set of clubs.

TaylorMade has also produced an innovative line of hybrid clubs. The Rescue series of hybrid clubs are designed to replace irons, especially long irons. These include the Burner Rescue, the Rescue TP, the Rescue Dual Hybrid, the Rescue Dual TP Hybrid, and the R7 Draw Rescue. All of these are reasonably priced and of the highest quality.

TaylorMade drivers and clubs can greatly improve your game, whether you’re a rookie or you’re looking to go pro. Remember to look out for the R11, Burner, and Rescue series of TaylorMade clubs.

Whether you are a professional golfer, a casual golfer, or a first-time golfer, you should consider getting a Ping golf bag to store your clubs in. There are three models in particular that you should take a look at, to see if any of them meet your needs.

The Hoofer C-1 is a solid, middle-of-the-road Ping golf bag. It is made of nylon, so care and maintenance are easy, and the bag is relatively lightweight. It has six reconfigured pockets that make it easier to organize, store, and retrieve your clubs. It has individual dividers and a 5-way divider top that provide more storage options for gadgets or golf balls. There is also a very convenient water bottle pouch. The Hoofer C-1 is great for anyone who needs a general-use golf bag, especially if you don’t have one right now.

The Moonlite II golf bag by Ping is a great golf bag for those lazy Sunday afternoon games. It weighs less than two pounds, making it very lightweight to carry your clubs in. The bag is easier to reach while it is standing on the ground, so you do not have to bend over as much to get your clubs. It also has a hinged internal stay, allowing you to fold the bag in half for easier storage. The Moonlite II is a great backup golf bag for those days when you want something a little lighter for a casual game.

Ping’s Pioneer LC is a fantastic all-around golf bag. It has velour-lined pockets, making the storage for your clubs both safe and smooth for your hand as you retrieve those clubs. It has 7 accessible pockets and a 14-way divider top to store all of your gadgets, electronic devices, rangefinder, and golf balls. This is a great golf bag design to organize and carry all of your clubs.

Ping offers these three designs and even more in its great selection of quality golf bags. Use this information as a guide to help you determine what kind of bag you want – because Ping has probably got one to suit your needs perfectly.

Golf drivers are meant to take your ball long and straight down the fairway. Ideally, it would set you up so that you can make par or lower. If you think you’re drivers is keeping you down, you should look into a truly quality driver that will improve your golf game significantly. In this article, we’ll take a look at Nike’s new driver type, the NDS, how you can get one, and how it will make a difference when it comes to the scorecard.

The Nike NDS driver type stands for Nike Distance Series. The NDS takes on the heritage of other Nike developments – such as Ignite – and takes it to a whole new level. And, in terms of distance, what it promises, it delivers. You are sure to get better distance from a Nike driver than that regular old driver that came in your mediocre golf set.

It’s not only in distance that the Nike NDS driver type stands apart. You’ll really notice a difference in your game when you play with one. Nike has engineered this driver line to have superior balance, so your swing is steady and powerful, and to give you a straight shot, so you won’t end up in trees as much. After all, what’s the point of launching your ball at extreme distance if it’s only going to go out of bounds?

At this point, you’re probably wondering if you could possibly afford the Nike NDS driver type. Let me tell you that you can. Nike has truly designed this driver type with the average golfer in mind. They have striven to make this driver affordable and accessible. And if you need extra discounts, check out the online golf shops and discount stores.

Laser range finders are great tools for golfers. But three issues often come up: whether they’re legal, why they’re the best, and how to pick one. Read on to find solutions to each of these issues.

The USPGA Rules of Golf now allow laser range finders, provided that there is a local rule allowing their use; however, during competitive play, range finders which have any other features (finding the slope of the ground, the temperature, altitude, wind speed and direction, and so on) are not allowed, regardless of whether or not you use any of those features. So you can use whatever you want in casual play, but only the basic ones in tournaments and anything governed strictly by the rules.

Laser range finders are better than golf GPS units. They do not need a subscription fee. They are more accurate (often +/- 1 yard). They can give you the distance to any point on the course, provided you have line of sight. However, they can be adversely affected by weather conditions, or even sprinklers on the course.

But how do you evaluate and choose a good laser range finder? Several sources advocate examining five details: accuracy, ease of use, features, ease of obtaining readings, and value. Accuracy means how close it gets to the actual distance to your target. Ease of use refers to how easy it is to locate a target, read the screen, and so on. Features include “pin-locating mode,” which provides the distance to the nearest object in a field of view, and detectors for slope and other factors; remember the USPGA rules when examining features, however. Ease of obtaining readings refers to the system: is it press-and-hold or press-and release? Does it have good magnification to make target selection easy? How is it weighted and designed for handling? Finally, value is a judgment of whether or not the laser range finder is worth the price, and that’s up to you.

Laser range finders are legal in some situations, they are better than GPS units, and selecting them is as simple as deciding whether they do what you want to do for the price you want to pay.
